Jerry's Journal: Playing Hide and Seek

In the mornings, when I'm getting ready for work and in the shower, Jerry likes to dive underneath the bed covers. Sometimes he doesn't wait there, but instead hears the shower clicking off and sits outside the bathroom door until I come out. Other times, Jerry remains underneath the covers until I come and find him, after which he's all excited that I had found him.

I don't have a picture to showcase him hiding, due to a complication with uploading pictures to this blog today, which also explains why this post is late.

Jerry's Journal: What Have You Brought Me Now?

First of all, I do apologise for the blurriness of the pictures, but they do convey enough to know what's going on, and of course, it's cute seeing Jerry so curious.

Dad brought himself a telescope, but Jerry being his adorable-self, wanted to know what it was. I'm not sure if he wanted to help open the box like he does with presents, or he just wants to figure out what that strange object is in front of him, with a smell he's never come across before - or both.

Jerry's Journal: Confused by Stairs

Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture detailing the moment he was confused by stairs. He’s been over my Grandparent’s house once before, and both times, whenever someone walk up the stairs, he watches them, trying to figure out where they’re going and once they’ve disappeared, he walks to the bottom of the stairs and sits down and wait for them to return. When they do, he gets all excited.

Before he became a member of our family, he lived in a bungalow, now he lives in a flat, and even my Grandma’s house doesn’t have stairs, only my Grandparent’s house does. When out for walks, mainly during the summer, I take him across the water’s edge, where there is the option of steps to reach the higher level, to see more of the area. He loves going up and down them, but they’re outside only. Jerry hasn’t quite gotten used to the concept of having steps indoors.

If I were to put my Grandparent’s stairs outside, he’ll confidently go up and down them all day, but indoors, he’s cutely confused. He’s baffled by them. The highest step he’s reached is the fourth, when he tested them out with his front paws – he just hasn’t learnt he can walk up and down them no differently than the ones he does outside.

Next time he's visiting, I'll try and capture that moment he's baffled, and help him up.

Jerry's Journal: Jerry's New Collar

Now that Jerry is fully grown, he'll no longer be outgrowing his collars, but instead wearing them out. When out on walks, Jerry loves pulling to make sure he sniffs everything, says hello to every passing dog and person possible. He's worn out his collar, so we had to go and get him a new one from his favourite shop, Pets At Home.

Jerry is now wearing his new collar and relaxing, watching TV.

Jerry's Journal: Enjoying Christmas

Jerry absolutely loved Christmas day. He may not have understood everything that was going on, but he surely enjoyed doing what he doesn't do very often, and that's help unwrap stuff. We started off with his card, which he tore the envelope, even trying to pull the card out. Of course, he doesn't know it was a card, just something he could chew to pieces, which we didn't allow him to do when he did get the card out.

Next, he started on his presents, which he was so eager to open, he clambered all over us both to get at them.

And when he was allowed to tare open the paper, my mum had wrapped it in so much tape it became a game of tug-of-war as the paper refused to be torn. In the end, it eventually gave way and he was able to get to the toy inside.

What he didn't realise was not every present was for him, so when it came to opening mine, he wanted to help, too.

Nana also gave him a bag of treats. We weren't entirely sure if he knew what was in that bag or he stuck his nose in the bag simply because it's a bag and it sparked his curiosity. He wasn't able to open the treats inside.

Overall, he absolutely loved all the attention, treats and new toys. He was worn out before midday, but he soon perked up when it was time for dinner. You can't see exactly what he was eating, but it was his own mini Christmas dinner - complete with chicken pieces, and potatoes (cold). It was gone in a matter of minutes, licking the bowl afterwards just to make sure he caught everything.

Jerry's Journal: New Jerry Mobile

Our family car broke down one night, meaning we had to get a new one. Or, in other words, the Jerry Mobile had broken down one night, meaning we had to get him a new one for him to ride in. He took to his new Jerry Mobile instantly.

Jerry's Journal: Is It Mine?

My car broke down on Thursday. It needs a new gear stick, which my dad manage to find on Friday. On Saturday, before we headed out to have it fitted, Jerry got curious and started sniffing it, hoping to figure it out. The most he determined was it had a label - something he could chew. When we took it away from him, he wasn't best pleased. We took away something he had considered his.

Jerry's Journal: Recognising His Bowl

When Dad was clearing out his car, Jerry was watching him. We keep a bowl in the car for whenever Jerry needs a drink outside, and when dad took the bowl out of the car, Jerry recognised it immediately, and got excited, thinking he's going to get a drink. He wouldn't settle down until dad filled the bowl up with water and let Jerry drink from it. Afterward, he calmed down and resumed watching Dad clear the car.

He's one smart dog.

Jerry's Journal: Starting His Countdown to Christmas

It's December 1st, which means Advent Calendar time, and as you can see in the picture above, Jerry is eager to start his.

Jerry wanted to help find and open door number 1. Unfortunately, only sniffing at it excitedly doesn't always work. We had to help him.

And when we opened door number 1, Jerry was very grateful and gobbled down his treats. He then went back for more, but he has to wait for December 2nd.

Jerry's Journal: Asking Politely

Jerry is asking politely to be taken for a walk. At the Weekend, I like to take him for a decent sized walk. On Saturday, he had a car ride to Colchester, and around his favourite store, Pets and Home, where he met new dogs and people. Today, he's asking if he can go for a walk around the area.

Jerry's Journal: Happy 2nd Birthday

Yesterday, it was Jerry's 2nd Birthday and he absolutely loved the wrapping paper and cardboard packaging that came with the toy - his intended present.

Jerry was exited to begin his day.

He knew his presents and cake were on the table.

He attempted to take his cake and presents himself.

My present was a strong, rubber bone, which he instantly loved. However, it was overshadowed by his next present. My mum and dad gave him a Kong, a size bigger than the one he already has, but he wasn't interested in the toy as much as he was of the wrapping paper and cardboard.

My favourite part about the video is when he finds the wrapping paper on my lap and takes it, then shredded it to pieces.

The instructions that came with the Kong. As you can see, he didn't need them.

The cake he enjoyed afterwards.

Jerry's Journal: Halloween Costume

Jerry dressed up for Halloween, with his spooky bandanna, which he loved wearing. When I was taking the picture, he posed for the camera, lifting his head up, looking all proud, smart, and happy.

Jerry's Journal: Having a Bath

As Jerry is now a big boy, he can no longer fit in the bathroom sink, where he used to have baths. This is the first time he's had a bath in the kitchen sink, and as it's new scenery, he was a little nervous.

But, as we bathed him, he sniffed around and grew confident. He looked up at the time I took the picture, hence why I cut the top of his head of, but it just shows he's getting used to the kitchen sink as his new bath.

Jerry's Journal: Making a Full Recovery

On one walk last weekend, Jerry got too excited and bounced around in the woods, and he hurt his back right leg. This Friday, he went for an X-ray to determine any damage and to what extent, but luckily it wasn't serious. He will make a full recovery after two weeks of strict rest with gradual increase of exercise during the second week.

The picture shows his bubbly self with a bandage on his front leg where they injected the anesthetic for the X-ray.

Jerry's Journal: 'What're You Doing?'

Dad was working in the bathroom, fitting a new heater. Jerry got curious and wanted to see what dad was doing. I like how he poked his head round, as if asking, 'what're you doing?'

He was allowed to sniff at a couple of dad's tools out of curiosity, and remained in the bathroom, watching dad work on the heater. I was told he was a good boy that day, so Jerry got a well-deserved treat in the form of a biscuit.

Jerry's Journal: What Is This?

It might be a bit blurry, but what you can see is Jerry seeing if he likes hats. He sniffed at the interior, decided he doesn't like wearing hats and started trying to bite it. Or, Jerry got curious, sniffed it, got confused and so started biting it.

Jerry's Journal: Being a Very Good Boy

In Saturday we took Jerry to a dog-friendly pub, The Greyhound in Ipswich, near Christ Church park. He enjoyed being in a new place, and they enjoyed having him there. Jerry met new people, and new dogs.

Jerry was a very good boy. He didn't get too excited and loopy. He sat and laid down, with breaks of sniffing around to decipher what all those new smells were. And of course, when my food arrived, he immediately snapped to attention. He did get a few pieces, which he absolutely enjoyed.

Jerry's Journal: Having A Good Run

On the same day as Jerry watched dad dismantle the shed, he went over to the field with his rope and toy and sprinted around until he was worn out.
