The next morning, I awoke to the sound of a car blowing its horn
as loudly as possible. My eyes were struggling to open due to them being
covered in sleep dust. I had to wipe my eyes with the palms of my hands before
I could open my eyes properly. When they were fully open, I discovered that the
sun hadn’t risen yet. The room was dark save from a few rays of moonlight here
and there as they tried to force their way through the curtains. I sat up to turn
my pillow over so that the fresh side was facing upwards and sorted out my
duvet so that it wasn’t so twisted. As I was doing that, I heard the toilet
flush and the bathroom door opening.
‘Oh, you can’t
sleep either,’ Amy said not knowing about the car horn. I could only see her
outline as the moon’s rays bounced off of her and the rest of her body soaking
up the light. I heard the rustling of bedsheets as she climbed back into bed.
‘What’s been on
your mind?’ I asked, ‘Is it the station or the guy we met?’
‘Both,’ she said.
‘Do you want to
talk about it?’ I asked. ‘Maybe once you’ve gotten your thoughts off your chest
you would be able to sleep better.’
‘I think that if
I start talking, I won’t stop. I have to get some rest before the sun comes
up,’ Amy sighed. ‘You had better get some sleep as well,’ and she rolled over
so that the moonlight wouldn’t be too distracting. I finished sorting out my
duvet and settled back down; the freshness of the pillow helped a lot. I closed
my eyes and that was all I remembered before waking up when the sun was just
above the horizon.

I wasn’t as refreshed as I would’ve liked to have been the next
morning, but it could have been a lot worse, at least I did get some sleep. Amy’s
bed was empty meaning she must be in the bathroom getting ready. I’m not going
to fall for that one again. A couple of minutes later, Amy stepped out into the
main room after having a wash and tying her hair up into a bun.
‘I like your new
style,’ I said.
‘Yeah, well, I
figured it wouldn’t be getting in the way if it was up,’ she said pleased that
I had noticed. ‘Bathroom’s clear if you want to get yourself ready,’ Amy said
as she turned to focus on her bag of toiletries as she put her toothpaste and
brush away. I climbed out of bed and walked across the room where I closed the
bathroom door behind me and started to get myself ready.

Breakfast was a simple procedure. Nothing too fancy and nothing
too bad. It was just right. I had toast with butter and an apple juice and Amy
had toast with jam complete with a cup of coffee.
‘So I was thinking
that we take another look around the area before we do anything else,’ Amy
said.
‘I was thinking
the same thing, actually,’ I said, sliding my plate away to make room for my
apple juice. ‘I don’t want to bombard that guy with question after question as
that might make him feel uncomfortable.’
‘I agree,’ Amy
said, sipping her coffee. ‘I was wondering about just letting things take their
natural course, for if we intervene in anyway, it might make certain events
delayed.’
‘I don’t think
that can happen,’ I said, ‘but I do see where you’re coming from. If we just
act on instincts, everything should fall into place on their own. We just have
to be there at the right place at the right time for when everything does,
that’s all.
‘And you think
that’s going to happen? You said yesterday that we might be barking up the
wrong tree.’
‘I know, but when
you mentioned that you feel strongly about that guy being a major part of it,
I’m getting that certain thought that is telling me that whatever is going to
happen is going to happen today.’
‘What do you
think is going to happen today?’ Amy asked seriously.
‘To be honest,’ I
said, thinking, ‘I really have no clue. I mean, at some point you’re going to
travel in time, but maybe that won’t even happen.’
‘How do you mean,’
Amy said curious with what I’m going to say next.
‘I’m not entirely
sure, but maybe, once the video has been shot, it is then sent back in time to
be uploaded to the website?
‘I can see how
that would work,’ Amy said thoughtfully. ‘I was going to ask how the video
would be sent back in time, but that question is kind of irrelevant when we don’t
know how I’m going to travel in time. I mean, did you see any clue inside the
station?’
‘Nothing,
unfortunately,’ I said, which only lead me to speculate that Amy will find out
about the watch any time soon. I have to be absolutely sure, though. I don’t
want to tell her and it turns out this situation has nothing to do with the
watch, but if I don’t tell her, then what’s going to happen then. Will certain
events happen that will lead me to reveal my secret and there’s nothing I can
do to stop it?
‘Maybe you’re
right,’ Amy shrugged. ‘I’m still trying to process the fact that time travel is
actually real, you know.’
‘Yeah, I know how
you feel,’ I said stretching my arms upwards and waiting for the click in my
elbows.
When I brought my arms back down,
I said, ‘it’s that type of game that is impossible to try and think ahead a few
moves. You have to play with what you have on the field at that specific point.
‘Ready?’ Amy
asked after I had drained my last gulp of apple juice and set it down on the
table.
‘Whenever you
are,’ I said.
‘Then let’s make
history,’ Amy said with a smile. We got up from our chairs, thanked the person
behind the bar for our breakfast, who was very happy that she had done a good
service, and made our way outside into the bright and surprisingly warm day.
