Mum's Monday: Cooking Mama

This is just a simple game for the Nintendo DS. It’s not complicated, and if you want a rest from the puzzle games or simply want to play something different, then Cooking Mama offers you that experience.

This is a cooking game where you follow recipes and you are awarded points which equates to either gold silver or bronze medals for how well you have prepared and cooked each dish.

There are many recipes meat, fish and vegetable with many options to choose during the making of the dish. Some you can either do the vegetarian option curry or the meat option curry.

You can go from making and preparing the fillings for a simple sandwich through cooking a steak, chips and vegetable dinner, to making a more complex curry dish.

The can be as easy as spreading butter in a frying pan to I think a much harder task of separating an egg yolk from an egg white. Which I find an extremely hard task.

New recipes are added as you play. Would I follow the instructions and cook from it for real? I don’t know as I wouldn’t really know if the game is like real cooking with some recipes. I would have to look up the recipes to see if cooking times are correct and preparation is as for real when it comes to actual food.

I think the most hilarious recipe is when making ‘Mochi’ rice cakes. Whilst making it you can accidently squash the hand with the cooking instrument, you lose points but when I did for the first time it was funny, although I wouldn’t recommend doing the same for real it would be painful.

I would recommend this game as it has good clear instructions and even though it is in an Italian language, it’s still really easy to follow the recipes you can still follow the recipes. Also if you like cooking this is a good game as it is like you are cooking for real and improvised dishing up as well.

This isn’t a game that you can only play once. Just because you’ve completed the recipe and moved onto the next, doesn’t mean you can’t go back. It doesn’t get boring the more you play it. If you have achieved bronze or silver, you can challenge yourself for the gold medal using another option that the game gives you. The game can be replayed many times.
