After the film and we had eaten our pizzas, we decided to call it
a night. It was pushing eleven when Amy picked up her lion and held it in her
arms once more. She explained to me that her parents don’t mind how long she’s
out for so long it doesn’t exceed past midnight. I grabbed my shoes and coat
and slipped them on. I then grabbed the front door key from the hook above the
door and stuffed it into my left coat pocket.
After double
checking that everything was turned off, I opened the door and let Amy step
outside first before following and closing the door behind me. The night was
fresh instead of cold, but it did have that little bit of a nip if the wind blows
in the wrong direction. The full moon was the brightest thing in the night sky
and illuminated the path in front of us. My road does have a few street lamps,
but after a certain time, they get turned off for energy saving reasons.
That is a good idea considering
just how much energy the government can save each year, but there are loads of
people that are against the reason, because the darkness allows those types of
people who prowl the night, creating a disturbance and causing people to walk
into a few unwanted scenes. However, our area is a rather calm and quiet
neighbourhood where not much happens. You get the odd one or two trying to do
their best to stir things up, but since the introduction of the turning off
streetlamps plan, there has only been one incident involving a man who had a
bit too much drink at the pub down the road and thought it would be best if he
walked home instead of drive, only to end up believing that an inanimate statue
in somebody’s garden was trying to attack him and so attacked it back. He
managed to win the fight by breaking the statue’s head off, but at the cost of
most of his bones in his hands.
Most of the time, nothing
happens.
But I wasn’t
worried. If something does happen, Amy and I have all the protection we need from
my watch. She knows that I have the watch for she saw it at the fair earlier
today, but she has no clue as to what capabilities it has within, and I would
like to keep it that way, but if something does try and attack us, I hope they
know just who they are dealing with.
‘It’s a nice
night tonight, don’t you think?’ Amy said as we exited the front garden and
started our journey to her house. She doesn’t live that far away. A little bit
further than Tom, but it would be a waste of petrol if you drove. It only takes
about fifteen to twenty minutes to walk it by following the roads, but if you
cut through the alleyways, that distance can easily be cut in half.
‘We couldn’t have
asked for a better night to walk in,’ I confirmed, looking up at the moon and the
stars. Due to not having any light pollution and the clouds being scarce, the
sky above was beautiful. The twinkling of the many thousands of stars with the
moon in the middle and the Milky Way Galaxy itself in the background, was
something anyone could stare at for hours and it would never get old.
‘I really enjoyed
today?’ Amy said.
‘Me to.’
‘We should do it
more often.’ I wasn’t sure if Amy was hinting at something. I was a bit worried
whether I should ask this question, but I did anyway.
‘Does that mean
we’re boyfriend and girlfriend now?’ It was only when I asked that question did
I realise how awkward it sounded. And the winner for the worst question of the
year award goes to…
‘Of course it
does, silly.’ I couldn’t help but smile. I’ve never had a girlfriend before.
And I couldn’t believe that my first would be the one and only Amy. That round
of news made tonight that much more divine. Somehow, the stars shone brighter
than a couple of seconds ago and the Galaxy was so much more colourful. Wait
until Tom hears about what happened today. He’ll be so pleased for me. He has
been trying to get me and Amy together ever since I laid eyes on her and now
we’re finally together, Tom would feel like his mission was finally
accomplished.
‘You’re not going
to stop smiling now are you?’ Amy said jokingly.
‘It might wear
off in a couple of months or so,’ I said wondering whether that was true or not.
So many emotions that have been building up for four years have finally been
released out into the open and able to roam my brain at will. All that pressure
was gone in an instant, and so I wouldn’t be surprised if my happiness does
last for that long. Amy chuckled at what I said. Her laugh was so sweet now
that I have all these emotions in my head that I couldn’t help but smile that
much more vibrantly. My smile slowly became contagious. Amy started to smile as
well. Then, the smile turned into a small chuckle witch progressed into an all-out
laughter track that lasted for a couple of minutes before eventually dying
down. It seems that I’m not the only one that had built up emotions inside.
We walked through
the many alleyways that twisted and turned past many houses until we came out
of the other side. Amy lives on a road that leads to a dead end.
We talked about what we could do
the next time we meet. We could go shopping around the local shopping centre
that sits a little way down the road from here. She said that she has had her
eye on a particular thing for a couple of weeks now and would like to go a get
it as she knows that if she doesn’t, it’ll only be sold out and therefore
regret not getting it.
‘Do you have any
plans over the next coming days?’ Amy asked as we headed down the slight hill
that lead to her house.
‘I like making it
up as I go along,’ I said.
‘Oh, yeah,’ she
said, ‘you said earlier.’ She looked at bit embarrassed to have forgotten that
piece of information, but I quickly changed the subject when we arrived at her
front door.
‘This is you,’ I
said coming to a halt. The light coming from one of her windows indicated that
her parents were still up.
‘So, I guess I’ll
see you soon,’ Amy said.
‘I’m free
tomorrow,’ I said.
‘Then I’ll see
you tomorrow.’
‘Where shall we meet?’ I asked.
‘I can come round yours before
heading to the shopping centre for your house is the closest of both of ours.
Let’s say, around about nine-ish’ Amy suggested.
‘Sounds like a plan,’ I said.
‘It does, indeed,’ Amy said. She
stood on the spot as if waiting for something to happen. Was I supposed to do
something? What generally happens at this point? I hope that I’m not going to
ruin tonight by not doing what Amy is waiting for? But then, before I had a
chance to figure it out, Amy gave me the answer. She leaned forward and,
instead actually kissing me actually on the lips. A small peck mind, but on the
lips nonetheless. She pulled away instantly, going red from worrying if that
was the right thing to do. I was a little bit surprised that happened. I’ve
never felt anything like that before. Her soft lips against mine for only a
fraction of a second implanted the feeling in my brain, making it feel as if
the kiss was going on for so much longer than that.
‘Sorry,’ she said,
holding her head in shame as she was about to turn on the spot and head towards
her front door.
Something in me
kicked into gear, not wanting me to waste this opportunity.
‘Wait,’ I said
and she came to a stop. I could see it in her posture that she expected me to
talk about what she had just done, but I wasn’t worried about that in the
slightest. She turned around and I stepped up to her. I’ve never done this
before, so I have no idea how well it’s going to go, but here goes nothing I
guess…
My lips came into
contact with hers and stayed together for much longer than a fraction of a
moment. Her lips were so soft compared to mine, and warm, too. The stuffed lion
was wedged in between us. If it could talk it would say that it was not happy
being in the middle of this. I let my instincts take over my actions and pulled
away when they told me to, ending that insanely awesome kiss. She looked into
my eyes and I into hers for a couple of seconds as we both calmed down.
‘I’ll see you
tomorrow,’ she said smiling brightly. I made the right move. When does that
ever happen?
‘See you
tomorrow,’ I confirmed. Amy turned on the spot once more and headed towards the
door, this time with her head held high. She unlocked the door and waved
goodbye before closing it, allowing me to make my way home. I was practically
dancing all the way home. I couldn’t be more pleased with the lights being off.
I know that I look weird dancing in the middle of the night, but I didn’t care
if anybody did see me. Tonight was our night, and nothing’s going to stop that…
