Thomas Edward Alexander (known by everyone else as
simply, Tom) is the best friend of Sebastian since their first day of
preschool. He isn't the tritagonist of the story, nor is he
officially a secondary character. He's there whenever he is needed, to
help out however he can. He is loyal, trustworthy, enthusiastic, and wants
Sebastian to come out of his comfort zone more often. This doesn't make him
unimportant to the story, however, as his friendship with Sebastian and his
upbeat personality makes him a joy to be around and increases Sebastian's
confidence by a good amount (sometimes) without him knowing it. As well as him
being there to help his life-long friend through the toughest of times,
Sebastian has been there for him. Together, with him having all the street
smarts and Sebastian having all the book smarts, they can be extremely clever
at times. In fact, he's just as nerdy as Sebastian when it comes to science and
IT stuff but with a bit of cultural knowledge thrown in for good measure.
It has been noted by both parents that if Tom isn't
home, he's, about 99% of the time, at Sebastian's. The other 1% is when he's at
college. It is hard to find a time when they are out and about on their own.
From the moment Tom saw Sebastian notice Amy walk into
the classroom on their first science class, he knew instantly that his best
friend had feelings for her, and for four years, he has been encouraging him to
go over and talk to her.
All in all, he understands and respects the value of
friendship for he knew that he wouldn't be the person he is today if it wasn't
for Sebastian. If he was asked to describe his friendship they have together in
a simple way, he would say: 'Vice versa'.
