The Watch – Part 69:

So both our parents know about us two being together, which I have nothing bad against if that is what you are thinking. I just can’t believe that only on the third day of the summer holidays, I have accomplished so much. However, does it count that I went into two parallel universes and had a massive adventure within them. I haven’t forgotten that I fought so many robots and a super villain, it just feels like it was so long ago considering that in a space of two days, I became the boyfriend of Amy and Amy became the girlfriend of Sebastian – me – but that’s only because she has the same feelings that I have about her towards me, so we sought of connected straight away, and kissed, and survived a potential terrorist attack, which I stopped sometime in the future. And let’s not forget the moment when I stopped that runaway train from derailing and causing a massive disaster that would have gone down in history as the worst train wreck ever. I mean, I feel as if I’ve lived through so many years in a space of only three days, and that’s all thanks to the watch I have on my wrist. However, being with Amy has had nothing to do with the watch’s involvement, I’m pleased to note. I’m just curious as to what the heck I am going to achieve throughout the rest of the holiday.

‘Can I ask you a question’, Amy said, laying on my shoulder with my arm around her. We’ve just gotten off the phones with our parents who asked if we were alright and all that.

‘What is it?’

‘It’s a sentence that requires the other person’s participation, but that’s not important right now,’ she said. We couldn’t help but laugh for a good minute before settling down and getting back on topic. That event that happened in the shopping centre brought us closer together. What normally takes a little while only took a couple of minutes.

‘No, but seriously, what do you want to ask me?’

‘What do you think’s going to happen during the rest of the summer?’ she asked voicing my thoughts. She must have been thinking about us being together and everything that has happened in between as well, except the hopping between parallel universes part.

‘I have no idea,’ I said truthfully. ‘So much has happened already that it’s hard to imagine anything else happening.’ A moment of silence passed before I got an idea.

‘Hey, I know what we can do,’ I said.

‘What’s that?’ she asked me.

‘How about we do something active,’ I said, ‘take our minds off of earlier for a bit,’ I said. She sat up and looked at me with a confusion. ‘Why are you looking at me like that?’ I voiced my wonderment.

‘You’re not thinking what I think you’re thinking?’ she asked me.

‘What do you think I’m thinking about?’ I wasn’t sure where this was going.

‘Hopefully not what I think it is,’ she said not giving me a straight answer.

‘Should I be thinking about what you think I’m thinking about?’ I asked. Try saying that five times fast.

‘No,’ she said quickly, making my confusion increase that little bit more.

‘Because I’m probably not,’ I said hoping that was the right thing to say.

‘That’s good,’ she said, sighing as if something heavy was just lifted off her shoulders. ‘So what do you want to do?’ she asked. ‘And please don’t say something active; that was a poor choice of words.’ I don’t think I’m going to find out the reason as to why we had that conversation, so I moved on and explained what I had in mind.

‘A dance off,’ I suggested.

‘A dance off?’ Amy repeated back my suggestion in the form of a question in the hope that there was some reasoning as to why I mentioned the word dance. Also, her repeating my suggestion also enlightened me to how uncharacteristic that sounded, but I was committed with following through with my suggestion, so I carried on.

‘Yeah, I have this dance game that I thought we could play together,’ I said getting up and fishing out the disk and dance mat from the cupboard under the TV.

‘Why do you have a dance game?’ Amy asked curiously. ‘That just tells me that you’ve played it before, and the only reason why you’re suggesting a dance off is because you’re good at it. Why are you good at a dance game?’ Amy asked.

‘Um…,’ I said trying to come up with a good explanation. ‘Tom…’

‘Say no more,’ Amy said standing up. She pecked me on the cheek.

‘What’s that for?’ I asked smiling.

‘Just checking that you’re still Sebastian,’ she said, ‘because I was getting worried that you were being possessed or something.

‘So you don’t want…’

‘Oh, no we’re going to have that dance off.’ She said. ‘I need to prove that I’m still the woman in this relationship,’ she said before realising that that wasn’t the best way to say that, ‘if you know what I mean,’ she quickly added. I set up the PS3 and inserted the disk and whilst I waited for the game to load, I set up the mat and made sure that everything was working perfectly.

‘Since I’m the one challenging you,’ I said handing her the remote, ‘I think it’s appropriate that you get to choose the first song.’

‘Any difficulty?’ she asked.

‘I thought about starting off easy and working our way up,’ I said.

‘If you so wish,’ she said, smiling as if to say I was a bit too scared to start off on the hard difficulty.

‘But if you want to be humiliated on the hard difficulty, then go ahead,’ I said.

‘I hope your dancing isn’t as bad as your fighting talk otherwise I’m going to have no competition,’ she said.

‘We’ll see,’ I said.

‘You see, that’s exactly the kind of thing that makes me think you’re possessed,’ she said looking at me with pretend worry before picking a song.

‘Ladies first,’ I said.

‘Go on then,’ she said.

‘You do realise what you’ve just said means…’

‘Oh shut up and dance.’

I just smiled. The game loaded up and counted down from 3 to 1 before an array of arrows pointing in every which direction flew upwards, forcing my feet to move rapidly all over the dance mat.
