Victoria Wood 1953 – 2016, aged 62

(Written by Sandra Hudson)
Back in 1974, a programme was on TV called “New Faces”, giving opportunities for new talent to shine. Victoria Wood appears and it is clear that her talent for writing and singing was going to make her famous. As well as becoming famous, she later became, as we now know, a national treasure and a household name.

She was married to Geoffrey Durham best known for his magic, and they have 2 children

During the 70s and 80s, she appeared on” That’s Life”, before pairing up with life-long friend, Julie Walters in “Wood and Walters”, playing various characters. She then went on to do her own show, “Victoria Wood as Seen on TV”.

In 1998 - 2000, she played Bren in the extremely popular comedy programme, Dinnerladies, which she wrote and acted in. Set in a Manchester factory canteen. It came to an happy-ever-after ending with Bren going off to Scotland with her new found love, Tony, the canteen manager.

Victoria Wood is a much loved Comedienne showing her many talents over the years. She has appeared on talk shows and game shows. She has acted, produced, wrote music and directed, earning herself some awards along the way. Winning 9 Writers Guild of Great Britain, Royal Television Society UK, Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, British Comedy Awards, and 5 BAFTA Awards, as well as being nominated for more along the way. Victoria was awarded the OBE in 1997, and a CBE in 2008.

A massive talent lost never forgotten.
