I bought this film because of the soundtrack, added to the scenery
and colouring of the opening sequence, it makes for one beautiful film.
This film is entertaining with a sweet piece of comedy at the end
of the song ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ by Elton John. Pumbaa (Ernie
Sabella) and Timon (Nathan Lane) the two unusual friends that Simba (Jonathan
Taylor Thomas and Matthew Broderick) made when he ran away, sing “In short our
pal is doomed” and Simba told the Hyena’s what Zazu (Rowan Atkinson) said it
was funny to see an ‘Out of the mouths of children moment’. These two parts
added a sense of fun to the film that is mostly educational.
The film covers so many educational areas of life and it doesn’t
shy away from animal fights, death and destruction either. When Simba is a
youngster, curiosity gets the better of him and he gets into the usual trouble
and typical of a youngster he can’t wait to grow up but doesn’t want anything
to do with the opposite sex. He is also influenced by his evil uncle Scar
(Jeremy Irons). A lesson there for parents ‘Be careful who is and what people
are saying to your kids’. However; it is great to see Simba’s father Mufasa (James
Earl Jones) talking to Simba about the family dynamics and sharing some life
lessons with him. We could all learn something.
This film made me think that people should communicate more and
not just take one person’s word for it as Simba did when he was told a tragedy
was his fault by his uncle Scar. Simba ran away, we should all learn to seek
other opinions and then we may save ourselves a whole heap of grief or stop
more than is necessary in the long run. Simba should have gone back home.
Simba learns his destiny, to take his place in the circle of life
and we all learn to learn from the past and not to run from it.
The film is well worth watching whether you are a child or adult,
the look of this film is vibrant and with the music you will be hooked.
Beautiful and magical.
