The Watch – Part 41:

They all attacked at once. I directed all my strength in my legs, jumping up as I high as I could. I extended my fist upwards with the intention of hitting as many robots as I could on the way up, but I only hit four. Only those four were caught off guard and flung in several directions, but the rest had enough time to move out of the way. However, the four that I did hit, didn’t take long before they righted themselves, and when I reached my peak altitude and gravity was about to take over once more, they flew towards me, ready to attack me in the air.

They decided to use their weapons instead of their hands, and they fired bullet after bullet at me, but my tough skin deflected them off. I felt a small amount of pressure as the bullets tried to burrow themselves into my skin. They bounced off me, shooting in every direction, some hitting the armour of the robots of which the bullets came from, only to be deflected off once more, eventually coming to a rest on the ground.

Gravity was now in complete control of my body now and I fell back to the ground. As I was falling, I grabbed a robot with one of my hands. It struggled and nearly broke free, but my vice grip kept it in check. I landed on my feet in the same place where I were before, except by a couple of inches. The rest of the robots hesitated before making another move from fear of damaging one of their own, which gave me enough time to swing my arm outwards and I threw the robot at a group of them. It didn’t have enough time to right itself before it ploughed into the others, knocking them to the ground. I then used my speed to charge at them.

I was a one-man stampede as I ran straight through the group, flaying my arms about. Some were only flung to one side, others were knocked to the ground, but for some unfortunate others their amour was punctured. I didn’t do any real damage, just made it easier for me to do so later on.

I lost count as to how many robots there actually were surrounding me, but they showed no sign of stopping firing at me. I was in the centre of something that I knew would take everything I had to break out of. The bullets were simply bouncing off of me, but how long will it be before the robots realised this and resorted to other methods. Their swords might not be able to penetrate my skin, but their fighting techniques are something to be in awe with. I have to win this fight as soon as possible.

Even though I have done some damage just now, none of it wasn’t anything serious. I need to up my game. I need to smash even harder.

This time, it was fatal to the robots. I wasn’t going to take any prisoners. Every punch that I swung collided with a robot, every jump that I performed came into contact with either a hovering jet or a flying robot, and every time I destroyed a robot or a jet, I knew I was always one step closer to ending this once and for all. Bits of metal, tangled wires and scrunched up pieces of ground were scattered all over the place, making it harder to walk without stepping on something.

The robots then eventually resorted to other methods. They fired their missiles. I narrowly missed two, but the other two hit home and I was thrown off course, landing hard on my back right in front of the building. I had to get up quickly otherwise I would be bundled. More missiles headed straight for me and I managed to dodge them. They hit the building behind me, exploding with a deafening sound. I didn’t have to look to know that the building wasn’t even scratched.

Even more missiles came for me. I knew that they only had a limited supply, but when there’s hundreds of robots, each with about ten or twenty missiles each, that can be enough to bring down any army this world has to offer.

I have an idea. I ran forwards, keeping an eye on one of the missiles. I really hope this works. I reached out and, luckily, grabbed one of the missiles and its momentum nearly knocked me off my feet, but I stood firm. I then changed its trajectory and let it go. It hit its target with insane precision. It hit one of the robots in the chest, exploding on impact. I wasn’t expecting it to work as well as that. I knew before the fireball and the cloud of smoke cleared that the robot was no longer in one piece, and neither were the ones standing beside it. As the explosion raged on, sparks from the robots raced through the smoke and fire. I stood, watching, waiting for the right moment to strike.

As soon as I saw an outline in the cloud, I charged forward once more, straight through the dying flames, and straight through as many unsuspecting robots as possible. By the time I came out of the other end, each robot I hit fell to the ground with a fist sized hole in the middle of its chest. Their power went out and they moved no more.

But still they came. Whenever you defeat one, two more takes its place. I was actually amazed at just how many robots Sebastian had at his disposal. This fight was far from being over, and unlucky for them, I wasn’t even the slightest bit tired. I can do this all day. And from the looks of things, I might just have to.

My suit was in tatters. I never changed it after the first fight back at the arena. The shirt had holes all over it - I was actually quite surprised it's still on my shoulders - and the blazer was ripped all down the back and it also was burned. As well my suit being ripped and burned, it was covered in a thick layer of dust. When I started out, my suit was immaculate, but now it’s a mismatch of black, white, grey and a tiny amount of pink where my skin showed through. I thought about renewing it, but it would only get as ruined as this one, so what would be the point.

I didn’t care how much time passed. I didn’t care whether it would take all the rest of the day and all night. I will fight for as long as I have to. I will not give up. And neither, it seems, will the robots. Well, they have been programmed to keep going until they have either completed the mission or they are destroyed. In this scenario, unfortunately, for them, they will be destroyed.

More and more robots fell to the floor in pieces. Jets flew around with the hope of landing a solid shot, but I was always just too quick for them and I was able to bring each one down. I was hit with bullets, missiles, swords, and even their fists, but still I kept going. Hour after hour passed before it was the last few robots and jets left. They were lucky to have survived this long, but as soon as they make the wrong move, they will go down like the rest of them.

It wasn’t long before there were only three robots and two jets left. I admire their determination, but I failed to see just how their programming couldn’t tell them that this was a fight they simply cannot win, no matter what they do. Obviously, as smart as they are, they can only follow orders giving to them by Sebastian.

Sebastian must not be happy that I have single-handedly defeated his entire army of robots and jets in a matter of hours. As smart as he is, I would have thought he would have ordered the robots to retreat instead of letting them get destroyed, leaving him with nothing except the shields covering his building. Something’s telling me that he must be planning something to keep me at bay. Could this be a distraction for something bigger? Could this army of robots and jets just be nothing but a ploy to keep me away from his true plan? I doubt it, considering how many there were. But, once I have defeated the rest of this army, I will find out whatever he his planning or has already planned.

It only took what felt like a couple of minutes before I had secured my victory. By punching, kicking, throwing, jumping, I had won.

‘Congratulations,’ Sebastian’s disembodied voice said over the speakers from the building. ‘But do you really believe that you have won.’

‘Did you even watch what I did to your army?’ I shouted.

‘And?’ he questioned. So that was only something to keep me distracted. All those robots and jets. All those resources and money wasted. Whatever he has planned, must be something big. ‘I must say this has only begun. Yes, you have defeated hundreds of my robots and jets, but you should have thought that this was only a small drop in the ocean. I have so many more to come, and I know that you will easily defeat them, so I won’t bother sending them out to attack you, but I will offer an alternative.’ He started laughing just as thunderous footsteps shook the very ground below me. The booming sound confused its location, making me spin on the spot to try and clarify where whatever giant thing is heading towards me is coming from, but nothing showed itself.

‘Let’s see how you do against this,’ he said and the building literally shook when something took a step. I turned around and saw it. It was as tall as the skyscraper itself, and almost as wide. It was covered in golden coloured armour. It stood before me, towering over me and my abilities.

‘Woah,’ I exclaimed. My jaw slammed against the ground with awe. ‘Now that’s what I call a robot.’ Every weapon it had on its body showed itself, readying to be fired straight at me. I wasn’t sure as to how protected the building actually was, and so it could get hit by the strongest of missiles and still be standing without even a hint of a scratch. It stared down at me and I stared at it.

Time for round two.
