Milkshakes have mad drinking milk fun for many years and will
continue to do so for many more. There are many different varieties, each with
their own style and thickness that it makes it difficult to find the right one
for you. If you are a milkshake lover as I am, you would know the difference between
certain brands and how they make their shakes.
Today, I’m going to countdown the top 6 milkshakes so that you too
will be able to find your definitive shake of choice, unless you like all six,
which I do in one way or another, but there is always that one that stands out
on top.
So, let’s get to shaking some milk… Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Anyway, moving on.
Number 6:
Shakaway
I know, I know, I know, I’ve already broken the list’s rules by
including what isn’t technically a brand of milkshake but a company that specialises
in making them. Since 1999, Shakaway has sold a large range or drinks: cold
shakes, hot shakes, cold drinks, hot drinks, frozen yoghurts and smoothies.
Their main feature, the milkshake itself, is up to you to decide on its
content. The moment you walk into one of your shakaways closed to you, you are
presented with a tonne load of choices, and if you feel that a single flavour
isn’t enough, you are free to mix and match as many as you want. No matter your
mood, no matter the weather or the occasion, there is always a milkshake for
you.
Number 5:
Crusha
This brand of milkshake is usually the first choice for many cafes
across England and Australia, but you can also buy this in bottles from your
local supermarket. This milkshake mix requires you to simply add it to milk to
create your perfect drink, not too thick, not too diluted, or not too strong.
Their first appearance was in 1950, and since then they have three
current flavours: Strawberry, raspberry and chocolate, each one also coming in
no added sugar versions of themselves.
The reason why I feel this should be in the number 5 slot on the
list is because, whilst it being a well-known brand, it is tricky to get the
mixture just right and can leave the drink not tasting quite right and it may
take a couple of goes to do so, and because their former flavours, including
banana, and vanilla, are more than their current ones. Their range of flavours
should be a bit more than what they have, but it is a good bran nevertheless.
Number 4:
Shmoo
Another milkshake brand that requires you to make it yourself.
But, unlike Crusha, this mixture can come with its own milkshake mixing machine
as well, meaning you can add as much of the powder to the milk as you would
like and let the machine do all of the work. The more powder and the longer it
stays attached to the machine, the thicker the milkshake is.
This is perfect for parties and the standard get together. Coming
in a wide range of flavours, including banana, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla,
you won’t be getting bored of any one flavour any time soon.
Number 3:
Nesquik
The third and final milkshake mix. Coming in powder form, this requires
a tablespoon to create the perfect shake for anyone to enjoy. However, if you
don’t mix it well enough, it can leave a small heap at the bottom that may not
taste very nice, but that very rarely happens. In only a small container, many,
many glasses can be made, and when you’ve got the complete set of flavours, you
will have an almost unlimited supply.
Originated in the United States and owned by Nestle since 1948, it
was originally called Nestle Quick, but when it broke through to Europe, it was
relaunched as Nesquik in 1950s, but in 1999, the name changed worldwide.
However, if you don’t fancy making your own, you can purchase your
very own ready-to-drink milkshakes, which, since 1987 when they introduced the
strawberry flavour, only came in chocolate, so although the bottled versions of
their shake doesn’t have as much variety as the powder, it still is a good
drink. Unfortunately, that version of their shake ended in 2009 in the UK only,
so you can only get the bottles in the USA. That is why I chose to put this in
the number 3 slot. It’s a quality milkshake, though.
Number 2:
Yazoo
A ready-to-drink milkshake that, since the 1980s has sold over 80million
bottles annually, this milkshake comes in four flavours: Banana, chocolate,
strawberry, and the newly introduced vanilla. You don’t have to make it up yourself,
you can just take it off the shelf, shake it until ready and drink.
It’s not too thick and it’s not too “milky”; it’s just right. If you
need a good calcium and protein fix, then this is the drink for you. If you are
just wanting a milkshake because you just fancy one, then this is also a good
drink for you. You can guarantee that whenever you walk into a corner shop or a
supermarket, you can expect to see this in the chiller section.
Number 1:
Frijj
This is number one more for personal reasons than anything else. I
know I shouldn’t be biased, but I can’t help it. Whenever someone asks me what
type of milkshake I would like, I always say Frijj. I like my shakes thick and
full of flavour, and that is exactly what I get when I down one of their
bottles.
Mainly sold in the UK since 1993, there are plenty of flavours to
choose from including and not limited to: Chocolate, strawberry, banana, vanilla,
and chocolate fudge brownie, and since 2011, they have released their “The
Incredible” range, which includes the flavours: Honeycomb Choc Swirl, Sticky
Toffee Pudding and Creamy Banoffee Pie. The latter range of flavours is
stronger in flavour, but keeping the classic thickness, so if you are wanting
to be kicked in the taste buds by a delicious shake, than Frijj is the brand
for you.
Much like Yazoo, you can be sure to find Frijj in your nearest
shop or supermarket.
